First, let me insist that I give all praise and honor to God for Whom makes all things possible. It is He who has given me all that I’ve been blessed with and I’m eternally grateful.
I am also grateful to have had my mama and daddy, who both made a way for my siblings and I out of no way most times. I love y’all. May you both rest in peace.
All I can remember is baseball, the blues, and BBQ. Growing up — heck fire — that’s all I ever knew. My Pa, rest his soul, passed down everything he’d learned to me, just like his daddy did before him. And so on, generation after generation. Over 200 years of BBQ know-how, and I’ve been blessed with every bit of it — and for that, I’m eternally grateful.
My Ma, rest her soul, spent many a day and night perfecting cakes, pies, and cobblers. She learned from my granny — and you know how that story goes. She also leaned on my daddy’s sisters to truly master the classic Southern desserts we all know and love. My aunties had the patience of Job and the grace of angels, stickin’ with Mama until she got it just right.
With that knowledge and know-how, I’m plum tickled to show anyone that’s willing what Arkansas BBQ has been about for the past few centuries — with a touch of today.
Family, food, and the good ol’ blues — they’ve been staples of Southern life for generations. And even now, you’ll find them woven into every backyard gathering and front porch story. There’s nothing like it in the world. Not even close.
No awards. No trophies, ribbons, or prize money — and we’re just fine with that. If you asked me what reward means the most? I’d tell you straight: it’s seein’ folks full, happy, and surrounded by good company. That’s what it’s all about. That’s the Kuntry way.
This is Kuntry Redd’s BBQ.
